The Argentina Chronicles

So things in Argentina are COLD! After a long trip, a 6 hour layover in JFk and a 10 hour flight, we arrived in Buenos Aires only to find it SNOWING! The amazing thing was that according to the news, it hadn´t snowed in the city of Buenos Aires in 89 years! Several generations of people were walking around, mouths open trying to taste the snow when indeed they had never even seen it in their own city with their own eyes. It was cold, but marvelous.

We were bussed to the church, where they were celebrating their independence from Spain on ) Julio (The 9th of July). Argentine flags were flying and they had the most wonderful warm stew made of pork, potatoes, beans, carrots, and something else... it was fabulous. In Argentina, the people greet you with a warm HOLA! and a kiss on the cheek. We all quickly decided that we needed to bring this custom back to America... you feel so special and loved right away when people kiss you and greet you loudly and warmly.

After about 10 different desserts and a lot of insanely strong coffee we found our way to our rooms and off to bed. Our hotel is right near a train station so the sound of tracks and whistles blow through my dreams. Our room heater is lovingly set on 30 celcius.

Since then, we have been stuffing books, called The Eagle, which pastor Enrique wrote and distributing them to people on the streets of Buenos Aires... which is very cold. With my extremely limited Spanish, this is fun. I usually begin with "Hablas Ingles?" (Do you speak English?) Mi espagnol es nada (My spanish is nothing!) This usually makes them laugh and then I offer the book so they can practicar (practice) their Ingles.

They have been stuffing us full of fabulous food and we´ve generally been having a good time. We´re planning a time to help people practice their English and a coffee house with music and dancing. It´s going to be fabulous. We´ll I should be off... we need to meet. Tciao!
