October Update

So the month’s are just flying by… it seems just a few days ago that I emailed you last. Today has been a nice loungy day… I haven’t left my house… and with good reason. It’s absolutely disgusting outside… cold, rain, drizzle… boo! I’ve also been getting mad amounts of work completed in a frenzy to relax tomorrow before heading back to school on Monday.

Amazingly the weather this month has been beautiful… ranging from 40-70 and mostly sunny, I would say. For some reason, all I remember of last year’s autumn was RAIN. So the sun has definitely been welcome. It was even sunny all 3 days that I was in Edinburgh, Scotland… which is practically unheard of.

Speaking of Scotland… it was beautiful and relaxing. I wandered all over the city, enjoying the antique beauty and funky friendliness the city offers. The weather was beautiful and pictures will be forthcoming when I collect them all together.

Other than my mini-vacay/Christmas shopping trip to Scotland, it’s been work, work, and ugh… work. I’m getting teacher certification by Christmas, so I have a ton of work to do this fall to get my portfolio together, added to the massive amount of work I have anyway. In January I’m starting a course for Ethnic Minority Achievement… so it’s going to be more busyness… It really is a blessing to be able to be qualified and trained, etc… it’s just a lot in one year. I really feel like I have a purpose where I am and that really helps me to carry on when I feel like running, screaming from the building. I know God has placed me here and he will sustain me.

One of the things I am learning to do is ask for help. It’s getting to the point where it’s pretty much impossible for me to do everything on my own… mere scheduling conflicts, etc. are getting in the way, but it’s really nice to know that people are willing to work with you and make it possible for you to do your job. I’ve been setting up my room at school and have been blessed with nice things like board erasers, a clock, door stops, book shelves, a filing cabinet, a teacher’s desk and swivel chair, etc. all donated to me so I didn’t have to purchase it out of my budget. I got wireless network put in my room, and my laptops are working really well. It’s a nice place to work. All I need now is a kettle for those rainy days when you need tea. It’s probably good that I don’t get that, or I’d never leave, and would never speak to any of my colleagues, tucked away in my little classroom.

As the days get shorter and the weather bleaker, I’m going to need prayer to help me get through the rest of the autumn term. I have loads of things that need to get finished by Christmas. I’ll need all the determination, clarity of mind, and probably caffeine available to me to get through it, and would definitely appreciate prayers.

If you think of it, also pray for my dad. He had a gun accident and really injured his hand badly (he basically blew a big hole through it). He’s doing well, but it will take several more surgeries and therapy to get it back to its normal use.

I miss you all and hope you’re doing well, but I have to get back to marking… unfortunately. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
