Lack of Literature...

Why is it that reading theory keeps getting worse?

There is a group of people who say that reading classics is useless because it doesn't matter WHAT kids are reading, only that the are reading.

I highly disagree. Classics provide themes and ideas that shape who we become... you cannot possibly tell me that reading Britney Spears biography is equivalent with reading I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou...

I'm doing a project on integrating cultural diversity into curriculum in the UK. Reading through the suggested authors list makes me incredibly sad.

I can't imagine not reading so many of the books I grew up with. I understand that times change and new classics have been added to the list, but some books are timeless and need to be experienced even if not enjoyed or appreciated.

It makes me sad...
