After wanting to read this book for a long time, I'm finally digging my teeth into it. Coming from a Christian background, and for most of my young life being obsessed with the tales of gods and goddesses and heroes from various cultures, I'm really enjoying Tolkien's tales of the creation of and the peoples of Middle Earth.
I love the Valar and the Maiar organising and coordinating themselves as they sort out the running of the sun and the moon across the sky, and how for the first few days it was just the moon, then both, then the sun and moon together, and then how finally, they asked them to hide a bit just outside the reach of the sky's view, so people of Middle Earth could rest and create night. I love the image of Morgoth and his creatures cringing and delving deeper into their caverns and setting the moonlight for the Elves and the daylight for the coming of man.
Just imagine that my God didn't have to sort or organise anything, but He merely spoke and everything was coordinated. It makes you think about the bigness that was involved in that word... those few words that organised the cosmos and still holds it til this day.
